Please excuse me writing in English. You might enjoy the game at the link detailing a wargame depicting the glider landings at Veldwezelt, Vroenhoven and Kanne at dawn on 10 May 1940.

Michael,
Thank you for the link.
I was very intrigued to see the layout of the war game, because I know the region very well.
The village where my family originated from is just on the edge of the 'board'. That is the main reason I specialised in collecting items from the Belgian campaign in may 1940.

Nice to see you here and I hope to learn more. Did you play the game yourself? Is it popular amongst wargamers outside of Belgium?

Greetings,

Nelis

Thank you very much for your reply and interest. Yes, I played the game myself and it was a very near run thing.

It is very interesting that you used to live 'just off the board'. I try to be as accurate as I can with my boards, as I find the study of the actual terrain that the troops fought over as important as the troops themselves. On the other hand, I'm also slightly nervous when I know that I may be also modelling terrain in someone else's country and back yard! Incidentally, which direction did you live? I ask this because one of the scenarios I am looking at next is the breakout of 4th Panzer Division to the west. so the board will extend about 6km west from the Veldwezelt and Vroenhoven bridges.

I'm slowly building up a series of games (almost 50) that will showcase the Belgian Army's 18 day fight in May 1940. The more I study it, the more I feel that that majority of histories of the broader campaign do not pay anywhere near the attention nor respect they should to the Belgian Army's fight, in particular in the last week back on the Lys and the Lys Derivation Canal.

I'd be very happy to work with you or any others on this forum as I do this research and gaming. While I can read French and Dutch a bit I will not insult either language by actually conversing or writing in it!

Cheers

Michael
